What to Expect from a Typical Wisdom Teeth Removal Surgical Procedure
The process of extracting the wisdom teeth from a patient has evolved a great deal in the past few decades alone. Despite the difficulty of the procedure, detailed X-rays, good equipment and advanced skills in oral surgery can help oral surgeons not only handle routine cases requiring wisdom teeth removal, but also take care of unusual or sensitive cases that might require special procedures or practices.
When patients want to get their wisdom teeth removed, the process starts with a detailed oral examination and an X-ray. The surgeon will examine the X-ray and make critical decisions based on it and on the examination, as well as on other factors such as the medical history of the patient.
Outpatient surgery is typically used with the help of appropriate anesthesia in order to ensure that patients feel no pain and their anxiety is relieved. The removal process is typically straightforward, however, there is also a necessary period of recovery following the surgery. Depending on how well you heal, your oral surgeon could recommend prescription pain medication and specific instructions for tending to the area.
Also, even though most surgeons will not be too strict about patients keeping to frequent checkups after the procedure is done, any as needed visits are encouraged by AMOS to monitor the healing process in case there are any complications.
Teeth In A Day (All On 4)
All On 4 Teeth-In-A-Day is a revolutionary concept providing people with fully functioning teeth on dental implants in a single procedure that takes about a day. This technology was developed by Nobel Biocare and utilizes collaboration between both the restorative doctor and the oral surgeon. This merging of knowledge and experience achieves not only increased safety, but also a more precise implant placement. In addition, the fabrication of a final prosthesis is completed prior to the procedure. The computer-guided implant procedure is done in an arthroscopic fashion without requiring any flap reflection. This is beneficial in that there is less postoperative discomfort, less swelling, and less bruising. People can often resume their normal activities the next day.
All-On-4 begins when a CAT scan is taken of the patient’s jaw bone. This CAT scan allows for the generation of a three-dimensional model of the bone that can then be used with virtual reality software to plan the implant placement. The results are a more accurate implant placement and less chair time for the person receiving the implant.
Dental Implants Surgery and Bone Grafting
In order to place a dental implant—today’s standard solution for missing teeth—there must first be adequate jawbone. Without enough bone mass, the dental implant is more likely to fail early or have trouble fusing with the existing jawbone at all. Grafting is a very common procedure during which we implant donated bone and a special grafting material into the site that needs bulking up. Next, we place the dental implant, customized to each individual and guaranteed to restore your smile as well as your overall well-being. We strive to make the dental implant cost affordable as well as a smooth implant process to our recipients.
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are changing the way people live an approach the health of the issue of tooth loss. Dental Implants work because they are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. Dental implant procedures are more that cosmetic dentistry because the person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. Patients with dental implants can smile with confidence.
The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts that protrude through the gums are then attached to the implant. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.
Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing. Dental implants are an important option to consider for tooth replacement and overall oral health. Whether you are in need of a single implant or several teeth are missing, the dental care and expertise that we provide to our patients is exceptional. You will have a beautiful smile and improved oral function.
The Dental Implant Procedure
For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures to replace their missing tooth or missing teeth. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following initial work, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums gradually bonding with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures or a temporary tooth and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your dentist is forming new replacement teeth.
After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. The surgeon will uncover the implants and attach small posts that protrude through the gums and will act as anchors for the artificial teeth. When the artificial teeth are placed, these posts will not be seen and each implant will look like a natural tooth. The entire healing period and recovery process usually takes six to eight months. Most patients experience minimal disruption in their daily life.
What Are the Available Options for Getting Dental Implants?
Dental procedures involving the use of dental implants have been around for a very long time. These days, however, the technology is rapidly advancing. The quality of the materials, the advancement of the attaching mechanisms and the skills and abilities of oral surgeons have also come a long way.
If you want to get a dental implant or prosthesis to replace one or more missing teeth, you have quite a few different options at your disposal. For patients who require the replacement of a single missing tooth, a single implant can be used and restored with a tooth (known as an implant-supported crown). When patients need two or three adjacent teeth to be replaced multiple implants can be used and restored with an implant-supported bridge (very similar to a tooth born bridge, but without the risk of cavities!). A complete dental prosthesis can also be used to replace all the teeth on the upper or lower jawline, using various combinations of implants to achieve that goal.
When it comes to restoring a full jawline, it is worth mentioning the differences between a fixed and a removable prosthesis. The former can only be removed by a dentist and requires at least annual visits to have the prosthesis removed, cleaned and checked. The latter features a mechanism by which the implants are attached to a ball or a bar that connects to a socket attachment in the denture, allowing for patients to remove and clean the prosthesis at home.
The advancements in dental implants and prosthesis technologies have expanded quite a lot in the past few years. Today, getting a dental implant can be easy and efficient.
